July Empties

Hello lovelies.

Another month has gone, so you know what that means right? Empties!

I've not finished as much as usual this month, but I've finished a lot of huge products I've been wanting to see the back of so I'm pleased with that!

One. Gardenia Lavender & Sweet Pea Body Mist.
A nice enough spray, but I couldn't smell any lavender at all, it just smells clean and fresh. It didn't last particularity well so I doubt I'd repurchase.

Two. Bed Head Control Freak Conditioner.
I am so glad to see the back of this, and not because it was bad, because it was so massive (750ml) I was sick of looking at it! It smelt really fruity & left my hair feeling reasonably soft. I'd possibly purchase a different Bed Head line another time, but for now glad this is one!

Three. Skinetica.
I know this is the holy grail for some people, but I loathed this product. I know people use it as an almost toner but this dried my skin out to the point on making it sore! It does however reduce redness of spots so I used it to dab on to any spots. I certainly wouldn't buy the full sized.

Four. Vichy Eau Thermal Water Spray.
During the recent hot weather I was mega uncomfortable & found these sprays really helped to cool me down. I got this in the Birch Box a while a go & I think it retails for around £4 which is a bit much for something so tiny, but I might buy a cheaper version of this as it really did help to cool me down.

Five. L'occitane Toner Water Spray.
This was a mini that came with another purchase, and although I liked it I think the full sized retails for around £18 which is utterly ridiculous for glorified water, so I won't be buying the full sized.

Six. Benefit Triple Performance Facial Emulsion.
I loved this, it left my skin feeling soft & didn't break me out which is all I need for a facial moisturizer! I'm currently trying out something new but I am already missing this so I probably will purchase this again when what I'm using runs out, but that could be a good while yet.

Seven. Clean & Clear Cleanser.
This is something I used in my teen years & go back to every time I have a break out to help get things back under control. Its something I tend to always have it but rarely use, but it really works for me if & when I need it.

Eight. Kiehls Creme De Corps.
Another product I know people adore, but I just don't. Don't get me wrong, its not bad, but it has no scent (which is often the way with Kiehl's products) and I prefer things with a scent. However its quite rich and very moisturizing so if your skin needs a treat it would be good, however I think 500ml is around £20 and I personally think you can get something of similar quality for a lot, lot less.

Nine. Philosophy Raspberry Sorbet Shower Gel.
I love Philosophy shower gels, they are really rich & creamy, foam nicely and they last forever. At £12 it's a splurge but as I don't have a bath (I know, a weak justification!) I feel less bad about it! I have another, but I will buy these as and when I find scents I like, a certain repurchase!

Ten. Timotel Vivid Colour Shampoo.
I picked this up on a whim & really, really really liked it. It's paraben free, and it left my hair feeling so so soft and bouncy, another one I will certainly pick up soon!

So that's it ladies, I am slowly working my way through my mega stash, and I'm hoping sooner or later everything will be under control!

So, hands up, who has a mega stash of products?

Hollister Crescent Bay Body Mist

Hello lovelies.

I'm going to start this review in what might be an odd way, but I'll admit I hate Hollisters, and its a shop I will normally avoid like the plague. But after reading far too many rave reviews of the body mists, I decided to venture in.

After stumbling around for a good 5 minutes trying to find my way round the darken shop & far too many staff wearing far too little pretty much screaming "HELLO HOW ARE YOU TODAY" over the music, I found the bath & body section. At first its fairly overwhelming, there is quite a lot of different scents & lets not forget that Hollister is probably the most perfumed shop that has been, or ever will be. There was quite a few I thought I liked, so I decided to spray some on the skin & leave the shop so I could see how well they lasted & more importantly what they smelt like in fresh air! Of the few I thought I liked, one really stood out, Crescent Bay.

Crescent Bay, like all the body sprays, come in a tall plastic bottle with Hollister branding. The spray itself is a bubblegum pink, but the colour varies from spray to spray. Personally I feel fairly neutral to the packaging, I don't love it but I don't hate it! I would personally prefer a little less HOLLISTER branding, but that is the way they do things so I can't expect there to be less!

Crescent Bay, like all of the Hollister sprays, is obnoxiously sweet & fruity, so if you tend to favour more sophisticated scents these won't be for you. To me, Crescent Bay smells like a mix of apples, watermelon & sugar! What impresses me most about these sprays is how long they last on the skin, unlike other body sprays these last, and last, and then last some more, upwards of around 6 hours I could still smell it.

The sprays are unfortunately what I'd called expensive for what they are, at £12 each it's hardly a bargain, but at the moment all the bath & body products are on 3 for 2, so if you wanted a few it would be a touch cheaper! You can browse the range of sprays here (be warned, they've even made the website look dark...)

So ladies, have you sniffed these?  Do you have a favourite one?

Gromits Unleashed Bristol

Hello lovelies.

Yesterday was my boyfriends graduation, which was a really lovely day & I am incredibly proud of him. It also meant walking around parts of Bristol which I hadn't been to in a while, and spotting Gromits! At the moment, Bristol currently has 80 Gromit statues all over the place, the Gromits are all being sponsored by different companies, and all the profits are going to Wallace & Gromit's Grand Appeal, the Bristol Children's Hospital Charity. They have made an app for the trail if you were going to do it with kiddies to find all of them, but I thought I'd share the snaps of the few I spotted!

If you want to find out more about the appeal or fancy doing the trail you can find all the information you need here, but certainly a fab day out! The Gromits will be around until the 8th of September so you've got a while to get to Bristol!

So ladies, do you like the Gromits? Do you fancy sitting down & watching The Wrong Trousers now or is that just me?

Maybelline Super Stay 14 Hour Lipstick In Never-Ending Pink

Hello lovelies.

I've actually had this lipstick for a while now, and only just got round to reviewing it! I'm always really, really wary of lipsticks or glosses that claim to last any amount of time, so when I won a Maybelline Super Stay Lipstick from Fabulous magazine, my first thought was "I bet not" and my second thought was "Well, I will try anything!" so on to the review.

The Maybelline 14 hour lipstick comes in a see through bullet with a white plastic lid. I have to stay, not fantastic looking packaging & I've seen "drug store" (I hate that term so much, but the "Boots/Superdrug store isn't any better!) packaging executed a lot better, so poor effort Maybelline!

As I won this, I didn't pick the shade, but the shade I was sent was 110 Never-ending Pink, which I was pleased with as I tend to lean towards pink lips! The tip of the lipstick is much thinner than other brands like MAC, so it makes it easier to apply to my tiny mouth!

Swatched it's a semi matte mid pink, it's quite bright for me but I actually really like it when applied to the lips.

But, the most important question of all, does it last 14 hours? Well, no. Well, it could, if you plan not to eat, drink or move your mouth for 14 hours. This isn't to say it's not a hard wearing lipstick that lasts a fairly long time. Once applied it's fairly tacky on the lips to begin with, but that dries fairly quickly & leaves a small amount of stain on the lips, so once it rubs off you are left with a small amount of colour on the lips. Even though its semi matte I didn't find it drying at all.

I would say a good effort at a long lasting lipstick, not quite on the mark but not bad at all! I'm going to check out the other 10 shades at some point soon, and you can browse the shades here

So ladies, could any of you point me in the right direct of a longer lasting lipstick?

MoneySupermarkets Charcoal Challenge

Hello lovelies.

A few weeks back I heard that MoneySupermarket was hosting a Charcoal Challenge, and I thought I'd take part! I hadn't had a BBQ in so long & I love a good budget challenge! The budget set was £50, so I thought I'd share some snaps & how I made the money stretch!

As I live in a flat & don't have access to a garden, the Barbeque was hosted at a friends house, so the first thing I needed to get was a Barbeque! Initially I thought I would pick up a couple of disposables, but at around £3 to £5 each, it seemed an expensive for something you can only use once, so I had a little look around & found this bucket barbeque from Tesco for just £4, so I got that instead. I also gave this to the host as a thank you for letting us use their garden!

We then needed to pick up the charcoal, and my my there is a lot of options! Having a small barbeque we went for an instant lighting charcoal that comes in a small bag that you light & that in turn gets the charcoal going, easy peasy! This was a slightly more expensive way of doing things, as you only get 2 bags or 2 barbeques for around £4, but it is easier!

I also picked up some paper plates & paper cups as I didn't want to leave the host with a lot of washing up! The bee paper plates were from Tescos at £1.50 for 10 and the pirate cups were from Morrisions at £1.25. I also picked up a couple of snacks as barbeques can take quite a while to actually get going, so some little snacks can keep that hunger at bay. We also picked up some essentials like ketchup (Heinz, has to be Heinz!) cheese & bread rolls.

For the meat I opted for a 3 for £10 deal to make sure there was variety, and I got my boyfriend to help me pick them out as having never eaten meat I had no idea what to get! We ended up going for sausages, beef burgers and kebabs. This actually ended up being far, far too much, but it's always hard to judge how much other people will want! We also picked up some metal tipped tongs as I have seen far too many burnt barbeques fingers from people trying to turn meat by hand!

I also picked up a fair bit of salad to put in the burgers and generally just nibble on. I ended up probably eating most of the cucumber!

For me, I opted for some Quorn Chicken Style Southern Fried burgers as I've always had them for barbeques, and they are by far the nicest faux chicken burger about!

So! In total, I spent about £8 on the barbeque & charcoal, and then spent just under £40 on food, drinks, paper plates & cups & tongs. I however way, way way over shot how much food we would need, and ended up taking half home & giving the rest to the host, which I reckon will feed me & my boyfriend for at least 3 more dinners! We had a lovely day eating, drinking & generally soaking up some summer (I even got my pasty white legs out for the first time in about 5 years!).

A massive, massive thank you to MoneySupermarket for supplying me with the £50, and if you'd like to know more you can here.

So ladies, are you planning a barbeque any time soon? Hands up who over estimates how much food is needed?

Travalo Handbag Atomizer & How To Get It For £1.99

Hello lovelies.

We all love a good deal don't we? So today I thought I would share a nifty little deal I got last week, a Travalo Handbag Atomizer for just £1.99, I'll do a little review first & give you the how to get the offer.

The Travalo is a cute 5ml atomizer that comes in lots of different shades. Personally I went for the purple as it was jumping out at me, but all the pretty metallic colours are equally pretty. As it's only 5mls its safe to take on planes.

The Travalo is like any other perfume spray, a metallic lid that you can pull off. It also has a see through side so you can see how much perfume is left in it.

To fill the Travalo you need to pick a perfume to put in it & pull off the spray cap & pop the the bottom of the Travalo over the spray & pump up and down until it fills as much as you want it to be. It thought this bit would be a bit of a faff, but its really well designed and it was really easy. The bit that was a faff however was the actually getting the spray top off of the perfume bottle. I originally wanted to fill mine with Marc Jacobs Dot, but they put a rubber ring around the inside of the spray top to make it more secure, or in my case, impossible to get off! So I ended up going for Escada Cherry In The Air as it popped off easily!

After quite a few pumps it filled around half way. As far as I can tell cleaning the Travalo out for a new perfume seems to be a bit of a nightmare, the Travalo website suggests getting an empty travel spray & filling it with water, and doing the same as above & spraying the water out, or more outrageously having a different Travalo for every perfume!

As someone who carries around way too many things day to day this nifty little atomizer has really helped lighten the load!

So, usually the Travalo costs £11.99, but at the moment if you have the 02 priority moments app, or even if you know someone who has an 02 number who won't use it, you can get £10 off at The Perfume Shop, I used my boyfriends number on my Orange phone, you just need to verify the app with the 02 number, with no minimum spend! So you could use it towards a new perfume, a Travalo, a present, whatever! The only problem is that it can only be used in-store, not online, and there is only a week left to redeem, so if you want to get this offer you'll need to act fast, but it's not half bad if you can get it!

So ladies, are you going to try & use this offer? If so what are you going to put it towards?

Being Unemployed

Hello lovelies.

It's a bit of a different one today, a bit more of a personal one. One that right now, I'm not even sure I will publish, but one I feel I want to write.

Now as far as I can tell the BBC had a program about benefits on last night, and where as I didn't see the actual program, I did see the hashtags flying around on Twitter, and stupidly thought I'd have a look. Some tweets were much nicer than expected, others were exactly what I expected. Vile & dripping with hate.

Hate, that even though is aimed at no one particular, I feel is aimed at me. Because ladies, I am currently unemployed.

Unemployed, what a dirty sounding word that one is. A word that is bounded around by magazines & newspapers as a term for those who just don't feel like working. Those who don't fancy it.

Everyone has read a story about how someone, somewhere, who has 5 billion children, lives in a mansion, has a horse, has 10 cars, goes on a hundred holidays a year and still has money left over to kit themselves out in the latest clothes. But personally, having worked in social housing previously, have never met nor heard anyone I know that knows someone like that. These people, are beyond a minority, less than half a percent. The average person claiming job seekers will receive around £50 a week, or £7.14 a day, for food, clothes, but mainly bills.

If the average person on benefits is also receiving housing benefits, this figure will be higher, but this is not walking around money, it is to pay rent, and having worked in this setting before I know all to well that often the amount of money received in housing benefits will not cover the entire of their rent, and even if its by as little as a few pounds, it will have to come out of the aforementioned jobseekers allowance, or JSA. Leaving not all too much for food, necessities, and bills.

Every single person I know, including myself, spouts the same 5 words over and over again, "I Just Want A Job" and that isn't some catch phrase. It's the truth. No little girl or boy has ever uttered "When I grow up I want to be on the dole!" because being unemployed, is no ones dream. The realities for people struggling to find work are a hundred miles away from any far fetched, one off story.

I can tell you my whole day from start to finish. I wake up, I sit in my front room, I eat some lunch, , I check what jobs have come up over night, I eat some dinner, I go to bed & lie awake worrying about money. It's funny that magazines never print this sort of story. If your really interested in the specifics of my situation, I currently do not receive JSA, I get a small amount of housing benefits as my boyfriend has a student loan & a part time job. I can promise you I don't even have a horse or a mansion, not even one.

But what I fail to understand is the lack of compassion. Scrolling through the hashtags on twitter, the most vile, most hateful tweets seemed to come for girls of around the 16 mark, which is hardly surprising, but at the same time I found it slightly amusing that someone who has never paid tax has such high strung opinions.

I wouldn't wish being unemployed on my worst enemy, but in these fragile times its not always possible to know if or when jobs might be lost. A few years a go I had a job I loved, in a team I loved, doing something I loved, all for crap money but that didn't matter. I worked my socks off, and even though I was on a 6 month probation period, I had every confidence that I would be offered permanent employment. Days before I was due to be made permanent, the new government was elected, the budget was instantly slashed, and I was not offered employment. The following Monday the entire team, all 13 of them, were told that they were being let go, and by Friday they were packing up their desks. Some of them not far off retirement, most had worked their more than 10 years, and one had worked their for over 30 years. No one saw it coming. But that is just how quickly it can change. Secure one weekend, unemployed the next. So if that was to happen to you, would you not be happy that we live in a country that offers a security net, should things not work out?

I was someone who always worked, and at the tender age of 13 had a job, and when I was bored of that job I went and got another. I loved having my own money, even if I had to work some particularly crap jobs, like working in McDonalds even though I'm a vegetarian!

Being unemployed is a particularly soul crushing time. Job rejection after rejection, spending hours applying for a job only to never hear back, it can be hard to keep your head above water. Myself & someone else I know who is currently seeking employment were recently talking, and during a 10 minute conversation we must of said "When I have a job" or "When I've got some work" at least 20 times. It all comes back to wanting to work, and I'd go even further than that to say desperate to work. I'd do any job, any hours, any amount of money to feel like I could finally hold my head high, look someone square in the eye when I'm asked the "So what do you do?" question & say I do X, rather than squirming around trying to nicely word "I'm unemployed, broke and feel worthless".

Don't get me wrong here, this isn't meant as a rant, just me sharing my thoughts on what can be a highly controversial subject. It's a hard one to fully understand unless you've been their yourself, and I'll fully admit that until I had dealt with it myself. But I still maintain that I have no idea who these magical people are who live a champagne lifestyle on benefits, as currently, Lambrini would be a stretch. I know eventually I will find a job, and if your in a similar situation you will too, but I know how hard it is to stay optimistic.

So that's all I have to say ladies, I promise I will be back to my usual beauty blogging self very soon, and I don't think this will offend anyone, but if it does, sorry.

Beauty Mini Haul

Hello lovelies.

Today I thought I'd share a few bits I picked up yesterday, which was a bit naughty as I'm not really meant to be spending money, but special offers dragged me in!

One. Organix Rejuvenating Cherry Blossom Conditioner.
I've already reviewed this here but I'm starting to run pretty low on it, and I just love it. It smells amazing & leaves my hair feeling soft, and the Organix range is currently on £2 off in Superdrug making this bottle £3.99, if I had more money I would of bought them all as I haven't seen this one anywhere else!

Two. Fudge Urban Iced Raspberry & Vanilla Strong Hold Hair Spray.
This was bought to my attention when it was mentioned in a favourite video by the lovely Fleur De Force, hairspray tends to be one of those things that smells just vile, so a raspberry & vanilla scented one sounded pretty amazing! At first you can't smell much but as it settles a sweet smell is left lingering on the hair. I picked this up as it's my boyfriends graduation in a couple of weeks & I wanted to try and do something a bit fancy with my hair! This was also on a great offer in Superdrug, instead of £5 it was £2.47 and as it's a massive bottle I hope its going to last a while.

Three. Sally Hansen Gel Cuticle Remover.
I picked this up as my cuticles are a bit of a mess at the moment & I just can't seem to get the hang of getting rid of them easily. I actually used this last night & I have to say it worked really well for very little effort. I picked this up in B&M for £1.99, and I've seen similar Sally Hansen products in Boots for around £8, so if your near a B&M bargains and you like Sally Hansen I suggest giving it a good browse.

So that's what I've been buying ladies, have you tried any of it? What did you think?

Limited Edition Shaun The Sheep Compact Tangle Teezer

Hello lovelies.

I've made it pretty obvious that I love the Tangle Teezer, it's featured in a fair few favourites & must haves. So when I spotted some limited edition Tangle Teezers in the window of a children's hairdressers, I decided I had to have one, especially as I needed a new one for my handbag as every time I use it I'm pretty sure it doesn't actually brush my hair, it just pulls it all out!

There are 4 different designs, but for me it had to be the Shaun The Sheep one! I think it's pretty apt being that I'm from Bristol & Aardman is just down the road! The pattern is repeating Shaun The Sheep faces over and over again on a white background.

The compact Tangle Teezer differs slightly from the regular Tangle Teezer in shape, it's more curvy and angular, as well as having a bristle protecter that you just pull out before using, which I guess makes sense as if you were going to carry it around in your bag it would stop all the plastic bristles getting bent.

As far as I can tell the bristles are just the same, with long & short spikey plastic bristles to help catch all the hairs.

Next to the regular sized Tangle Teezer you can see how they differ in shape, and that the compact version is a fair bit smaller, they both do the same job but the compact is much better for carrying around day to day.

So as I mentioned earlier, there are 4 different limited edition patterns, Shaun The Sheep, Pink Bows, Leopard Print & the Union Jack, you can buy the Shaun The Sheep here directly from Tangle Teezer, as well as the 4 other designs, and they all cost £12.25 each.

So ladies, what do you think? If you were going to buy one, what design would you go for?
